Abington Health Named 'Most Wired' Hospital on ADVANCE for ...

ABINGTON, PA -- Abington Health was recognized as one of the nation's most wired in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.

The nation's "most wired" hospitals are improving performance through the adoption of health information technology, according to the Most Wired 2012 Survey, which is conducted in cooperation with McKesson Corporation, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), and the American Hospital Association.

"Abington Health balances providing clinicians with anytime, anywhere access to its robust electronic medical record to facilitating safe patient care while implementing advanced security technologies to ensure our patients' privacy," said Alison Ferren, vice president of information technology and chief information officer, Abington Health. "Our nurses, physicians, information systems team members and all of our support staff are honored to receive this national recognition."

"As shown by these survey results, hospitals continue to demonstrate how IT not only can be used to improve patient care and safety but is also a means to improve efficiency," said Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association. "Hospitals receiving Most Wired recognition are truly representative of our nation's hospitals and systems -- rural and urban, small and large, teaching and non-teaching, and critical access hospitals geographically dispersed."

The survey, conducted between Jan. 15 and March 15, asked hospitals and health systems nationwide to answer questions regarding their IT initiatives. Respondents completed 662 surveys, representing 1,570 hospitals, or roughly 27 percent of all U.S. hospitals.

Abington Health is the umbrella organization that encompasses Abington Memorial Hospital and Lansdale Hospital, plus two outpatient facilities. Together they serve more than 42,200 inpatients, 131,000 emergency patients and 560,000 outpatient visits annually.
